The Japan Airlines aircraft caught fire after colliding with an earthquake-relief plane.

Although the Japan Airlines plane’s evacuation was hailed as a success, the coastguard was saddened by the loss of five of the six crew members on board.

A Japan Airlines airplane struck another aircraft as it was arriving at Haneda airport in Tokyo, sending the 379 passengers and crew members hurtling down the runway in flames. Fortunately, everyone on board made a remarkable escape.

The Japanese Coast Guard was in grief for the deaths of five of the six crew members from one of the airliner’s damaged aircraft, but the evacuation of the twin-engine aircraft has been hailed as an incredible achievement.

What caused the accident to occur?

According to a transport ministry official, there had been no reports of engine or other issues prior to the landing of Japan Airlines flight 516.

The passenger plane seemed to crash into something while landing, according to airport video, which raises the possibility that the coast guard aircraft was still on or near the runway.

Prior airport mishaps during nighttime or inclement weather, including fog, have happened when a single aircraft has not departed the active runway prior to a landing or takeoff.

The transport safety board, police, and other authorities will conduct an investigation, according to Japanese Transport Minister Tetsuo Saito, who stated that it was unclear what caused the disaster.

What were the planes doing?

Just before 6 p.m. (9 a.m. GMT), the Japan Airlines (JAL) Airbus A350 touched down in Haneda after taking off from the rugged northern island of Hokkaido’s New Chitose airport.

The plane, a Bombardier-built Dash 8, was traveling to Niigata airport on Japan’s west coast to provide help to residents affected by a strong earthquake that occurred on New Year’s Day and killed at least 55 people, according to the coastguard.
