Important Takeaways

The Apple Vision Pro, an augmented reality (AR) headset, was introduced by Apple Inc. on Friday.

The new device is a direct competitor of the virtual reality (VR) headset manufactured by Meta Platforms Inc.; nevertheless, the Apple Vision Pro is seven times more expensive than the Quest 3 headgear made by Meta.

Analysts predicted that corporations, rather than individual consumers, would be able to afford the Vision Pro’s hefty price tag.

Analysts are bullish about Apple’s Vision Pro despite the fact that the VR market has declined during the last 12 months.

With the release of the Apple Vision Pro headset on Friday, Apple Inc. (AAPL) entered the augmented reality (AR) space and entered a direct competition with Meta Platforms Inc.

The Apple headset is operated solely by hands, eyes, and voice and overlays applications on the user’s environment using twelve cameras, six microphones, and five sensors.

The new visionOS operating system powers the AR computing experience, which is compatible with over a million apps from the company’s app store.

Apple’s entry into the virtual reality (VR) market is priced starting at $3,499, which is far more expensive than competitor Meta’s (META) Quest 3 headset, which employs controllers and starts at about $500.

Part of what experts at International Data Corp. stated was that the Vision Pro’s high cost would probably limit its use to enterprises.

Analysts at Deutsche Bank Research expressed greater optimism, stating that “the Vision Pro launch expands Apple’s ecosystem and diversifies revenue streams beyond the iPhone over time, even though the high price may slow initial adoption.”

Additionally, Apple has revealed a brand-new format for spatial video that is compatible with the Vision Pro and iPhone 15 Pro devices. The purpose of it is to enable people to “relive their favourite memories.” On Thursday, Meta made the announcement that Quest 3 would work with spatial video.

Analysts are hopeful about the Vision Pro, despite the fact that the VR market has declined over the previous year. Wedbush Securities analysts project sales of around 600,000 units this year, a significant increase over the 460,000 units that Wedbush first forecast.
