The former Indian Cricketer Yusuf Pathan’s Thanks to Mamata Banerjee’s TMC for Lok Sabha Election Opportunity As A MP Candidate Against BJP In 2024.

The incumbent Congressman Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who has occupied the seat since 1999, is anticipated to oppose the former Indian cricket player.


In his acceptance speech, Yusuf Pathan, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate from West Bengal‘s Berhampore constituency in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, expressed gratitude to TMC leader and chief minister Mamata Banerjee. He also mentioned the need for people’s representatives to strive toward “uplifting the poor and deprived.”

“I will always be appreciative to @MamataOfficial for extending a warm welcome to me as a member of the TMC family and for entrusting me with the duty of representing the people in the Parliament.

It is our responsibility as representatives of the people to raise the impoverished and deprived, and that is what I aim to accomplish,” Pathan wrote on X, formerly Twitter, a few hours after the party’s statement on Sunday.

The Gujarat-born, 41-year-old former cricket player is expected to take on Congress heavyweight Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who has represented Berhampore since 1999.

Pathan was part of the Indian side that won the 50-over World Cup in April 2011 on home soil. He played for India in 57 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 22 Twenty20 Internationals between September 2007 and March 2012.

  • He also has ties to West Bengal because he was a player for the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), which is situated in Kolkata, the state capital. From 2011 to 2017, he was a player for KKR, where he took home the championship in 2012 and 2014.
