As they prepare for the T20 World Cup, an experienced Indian team will try to get over the heartbreak of the previous year.
The 36-year-old, who has represented India in 103 Test matches as well as five One-Day Internationals, will be looking to the men in blue to lead them as they kick off their campaign against Ireland on June 5.
Pujara told Al Jazeera in London, “We [India] have enough balance in the team but it won’t be easy because we will be playing in the US and West Indies where pitches are slightly different.”
“I hope the guys are up for that [challenge], but the grounds and their sizes are different from what we play in India.”
Pujara thinks that India’s team has a wealth of experience because its skipper, Rohit Sharma, has participated in all eight T20 World Cups.
“India has the ideal ratio of youth to experience needed for the shorter version of cricket.”
With ten straight victories, India advanced to the 50-over World Cup final last year, only to suffer an unexpected defeat at the hands of Australia.
They intend to pursue a second championship match, but first, they must handle the tournament’s main match on June 9 against Pakistan, their neighbors.
When their team plays the USA and Canada as well, the Indian population on the East Coast of North America will get two additional chances to witness them.
Suryakumar and Jaiswal are chosen by Pujara to shine
In addition to rising talent Yashasvi Jaiswal, Pujara, who has played the shorter form of the game with many Indian Premier League (IPL) teams until 2021, thinks middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav would be crucial.

The 22-year-old Jaiswal, who will begin the batting for India with skipper Rohit, has grown to be a valuable component of the team.
Pujara stated that Suryakumar, who bats in the middle order, “plays a key role.”
In the Caribbean, where the competition would completely change beyond the group round, he cautioned India not to become too comfortable.
“The pitches in the US and the West Indies change as the tournament goes on, so you have to be at the top of your game to play there.”
India’s fast bowling attack will be spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah, while their spin options will be spearheaded by Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja, who stands out for Pujara due to his all-around skills.
Because Ravindra Jadeja is an all-around player, it is crucial to have spinners who can both get wickets and bat occasionally.
“One match at a moment”
Pujara, a longtime cornerstone of the Indian Test team, thinks that prior to the T20 World Cup, India’s backroom staff would have developed a “clear game plan and mindset”, particularly because they will be trying to get over their defeat in the 50-over World Cup six months ago.
He stated, “There were a lot of positives that they can take into the T20 World Cup as well, so it [the 50-over World Cup] will be an inspiration.”
In 2007, India became victorious in the first-ever T20 World Cup.
The right-handed hitter hopes that India will go cautiously all the way to the June 29 final in Barbados.
“Winning the T20 World Cup is a goal shared by all teams, but the strategy is to concentrate on one match at a time.”

Jasprit Bumrah: Known as one of the best bowlers in the world, Bumrah averages 19 runs per twenty-two with the ball and has an economy of 6.55 in T20 internationals. After making his debut for his country in 2016, the 30-year-old bowler is now India’s “go-to” option for seam bowling.
