the midfield three consisted of Julian Gressel, Sergio Busquets, and Federico Redondo; the attackers, captain Lionel Messi and Robert Taylor, supported striker Luis Suárez.

Play Action

At Chase Stadium, the first half saw a balanced 45 minutes as both teams played solid defense and created few attacking opportunities.

It looked like the game would end in a draw at the half, but winger Saba Lobjanidze’s goal in the 44th minute gave the visitors the lead late in the half.

After that, Atlanta was able to increase its advantage early in the second half. In the 59th minute, Lobjanidze scored his second goal of the game, giving the visiting club a 0–2 lead.

But 13 minutes later, Inter Miami took the lead thanks to a goal from captain Messi in the 62nd. After receiving the ball in the middle of the pitch, Busquets passed it to Messi.

The Argentine master then touched the ball and fired a grounded left-footed goal to the far post, bringing Inter Miami back into the game. The assist was Messi’s fifth for Busquets this regular season and his sixth overall.

With the goal, Messi tied Suárez as the team’s top scorer for the 11th time this MLS campaign. It was also his 13th goal overall in 2024.

With 11 goals and 12 assists thus far in the regular season, Messi has amassed an incredible league-leading 23 goals contributions.

But Atlanta was the next to score, as in the 73rd minute, forward Jamal Thiaré scored the game’s last goal to give the visiting team a decisive 1-3 advantage.

After-Match Response

“First of all, we felt like we were lacking one extra gear in comparison to Atlanta, and it showed in both the first and second halves… In contrast to previous games, the team underperformed that evening.

Head coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino stated, “I think they beat us well because we were very well outmatched.”

Inter Miami will play its second home game of the week this Saturday, June 1, at Chase Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET. With this rapid turnaround, the club faces a difficult task ahead of it.
