Gabby Douglas abandons her campaign for Paris 2024 in favor of Los Angeles 2028

For the time being at least, Gabby Douglas’s return journey is complete.

After an almost eight-year break, the 2012 Olympic all-around champion resumed competition this spring.

However, she withdrew from the competition a few days before the 2024 Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships were scheduled to start, allegedly due to an ankle ailment.

Douglas allegedly remarked, “I love pushing my limits and I love this sport.” “I hope I can inspire both my peers and the next generation of gymnasts that age is just a number, and you can accomplish anything you work hard for.”

Douglas participated in the Core Hydration Classic a little more than a week ago, her second meet since the Rio Olympics in 2016. However, she was forced to withdraw from the competition after two falls on uneven bars during the first rotation.

Gabby Douglas was only eligible to participate on three events at the U.S. Championships: vault, uneven bars, and balancing beam.

This was because she did not achieve the necessary all-around score to compete on all four events from her performance at the American Classic in April.

She would not have had another chance to get an invitation to the forthcoming U.S. Olympic Team Trials in June than the U.S. Championships.

Douglas is said to have hinted that she intends to train for the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.

“I’ve demonstrated to the sport and to myself that I still possess exceptional talents. I intend to keep working out for the Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028.

Being an American representative in a home Olympics would be such a tremendous honor.
