After winning three awards, rapper Killer Mike was arrested for battery at the Grammys.

Following his arrest on Sunday for misdemeanor violence at the Grammy Awards, rapper Killer Mike was freed by the police. After winning three Grammys during the pre-televised segment of the ceremony, he was seen on Sunday night being led out of Crypto.com Arena by LAPD cops while wearing handcuffs.

Killer Mike was freed, as the rapper’s attorney revealed to Variety on Sunday night: “He’s out and will be celebrating his sweep tonight.”

Thanks to his recordings of Killer Mike being taken into custody on X/Twitter, reporter Chris Gardner of The Hollywood Reporter first revealed the arrest.

Killer Mike was victorious in all three of the categories in which he was nominated: best rap album for “Michael,” his sixth studio album that was released in June 2023; best rap song and best rap performance for his single “Scientists & Engineers.”

Eryn Allen Kane, Future, and André 3000 were featured on his song “Scientists & Engineers.” In the competition for best rap performance, it defeated Drake and 21 Savage’s “Rich Flex,” Black Thought’s “Love Letter,” Coi Leray’s “Players,” and Baby Keem and Kendrick Lamar’s “The Hillbillies.” The song won best rap song, defeating “Rich Flex,” “Attention” by Doja Cat, “Barbie World” by Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice, and Aqua, and “Just Wanna Rock” by Lil Uzi Vert.

The greatest rap album was decided by Killer Mike’s “Michael” album over Drake and 21 Savage’s “Her Loss,” Metro Boomin’s “Heroes & Villains,” Nas’ “King’s Disease III,” and Travis Scott’s “Utopia.”

Killer Mike won his first Grammy on Sunday night since 2003, when he was originally nominated and took home the trophy for outstanding rap performance by a duet or group for his contribution on OutKast’s “The Whole World.” Along with rapper and producer El-P, he was nominated for best rap song in 2018 for the song “Chase Me” by Run the Jewels, a hip-hop combo.
