After being accused of intimidating an umpire, England cricketer Tom Curran attempted to have his four-match ban in the Big Bash League of Australia revoked, but his attempt was unsuccessful.

On December 11, when Curran was getting ready for the Sydney Sixers’ game against the Hobart Hurricanes in Launceston, the strange incident took place.

Adrian Anderson, the commissioner of Cricket Australia’s code of conduct, discovered that the 28-year-old, who finished his career as an England player in 2021, got into a fight with an umpire during his run-up.

Curran tried to run on the pitch, but the match official told him not to and stood beside the stumps to prevent him from getting close. Anderson discovered that Curran made an attempt to run up and down the bowling crease at a fast rate in the direction of the umpire, who was facing Curran. To reduce the chance of a collision, the umpire moved to his right.

Later, Australian broadcaster Channel 7 released video of the umpire telling Curran he couldn’t warm up on the playing field, followed by the player sprinting in his direction before both men sidestepped each other to avoid contact.

The Big Bash League declared on Sunday that Curran’s and the Sydney Sixers’ appeal against the suspension had been “dismissed, with the original sanction to stand” despite their denial of the offence.
