R&B musician Usher has announced that he will roller skate during Sunday’s Super Bowl halftime show in Las Vegas.
He stated he would replicate a skating routine from his recent Vegas engagement that went viral.

Furthermore, the performance would represent a “new beginning” and a “crescendo” in his 30-year career.
Beyoncé, Prince, and Katy Perry have all performed during the Super Bowl halftime show before.
However, Usher, who quit his previous record company, RCA, to self-release his album Coming Home this weekend, will be the first independent performer to hit the stage.

When Nadeska Alexis of Apple Music interviewed him, he dodged several questions on his set list.
“Squeezing 30 years into 13 minutes has undoubtedly been difficult,” Usher remarked, thick shades covering his eyes.
He had performed famous dance routines from his career and had been “very mindful of my past” as well as the “songs I feel people know me for”.
When asked about possible special guests, Usher revealed that singers who had appeared “on songs that became hit records” will be joining him.
Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, and Lil’ Jon are among the singer’s collaborators.
“That gave me the greatest point of reference,” the singer stated.

  • The joke about a peanut allergy in an Uber Eats advertisement has drawn criticism.
At Allegiant Stadium, Usher will perform during the Kansas City Chiefs vs. San Francisco 49ers game.

He follows 2022’s all-star group of Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and 50 Cent, as well as Rihanna, who performed during the 2023 halftime performance while pregnant.

Usher has already made an appearance on the Super Bowl stage. In 2011, he made an incredible leap over Will.i.am as a special guest of the Black Eyed Peas, landing in the splits.

America’s national anthem will be performed by country music star Reba McEntire.

The pre-game concert will end with Andra Day performing Lift Every Voice and Sing, which is commonly referred to as the black national anthem.

However, Tiesto, a dance artist, will be the first-ever in-game DJ for the Super Bowl.

Usher is who?

At the age of nine, Usher Raymond IV began singing in churches in Tennessee. A year later, he joined a group called NuBeginning; they made an album in 1991, but it wasn’t released until after Usher became well-known.

Following the family’s relocation to Atlanta, Usher was found at a talent event and signed by LA Reid, the same executive that signed OutKast, TLC, and T.I.
When he was barely 15 years old, his first song, Call Me A Mack, was featured on the soundtrack of the Tupac Shakur and Janet Jackson movie Poetic Justice.

However, his debut album, which was produced by P Diddy, was a commercial failure.
With producer Jermaine Dupri—who gained notoriety from his collaborations with Da Brat and Mariah Carey—he gave it another go.
Together, they created a sound for Usher’s second album, My Way, which had stuttering hip-hop beats mixed with his buttery smooth tenor, allowing him to showcase his dancing prowess.
Usher considers his eighteen years at the top.
The US number one song in 1997, Candle in the Wind, Elton John’s ode to Princess Diana, just managed to dethrone the first single, You Make Me Wanna.

After Nice & Slow, the follow-up, became a hit, Usher never looked back.
In the ensuing ten years, he achieved eight Grammy Awards, sold 80 million records globally, and achieved four US number ones in a row with Yeah, Burn, Confessions Pt. II, and My Boo.

These songs are very certainly going to be included in his Super Bowl performance.
Even though the 2010s weren’t as kind as the previous one (the title of his eighth album, Hard II Love, was unintentionally prophetic), he was still regarded as a brilliant live performer.
He served as a judge on The Voice for a short while before beginning a Las Vegas residency in 2022, which resulted in 100 sold-out performances and the Super Bowl.

Where will the show be held?

On Sunday, midway through the Super Bowl, Usher will take the stage.
At 23:30 UK time (15:30 in Las Vegas), the game will begin.

Halftime will arrive between an hour and a half and two hours into the game, depending on how it goes.

Accordingly, Usher’s show is scheduled for approximately 01:00-01:30 UK time, or 17:00-17:30 in Las Vegas.
The game will be broadcast on CBS and streamed on Paramount+ in the United States.

UK viewers can watch it starting at 22:45 on ITV1 and ITVX.
If you’re not one of those people who prefers to see concerts live, the NFL usually posts the entire event on YouTube as soon as it airs, and Apple Music users may listen to it in spatial audio again.

Why is the halftime entertainment during the Super Bowl so significant?

Every year, the Super Bowl is the most watched event on US television, with halftime shows consistently drawing larger crowds than the actual game.
In 2022, Rihanna attracted her largest-ever viewership of 121 million people.

The audience has been very nearly 100 million, even in cases where the bookings aren’t as good (Maroon 5 in 2019 being one example).
Because of the platform’s size, a lot of artists—including Rihanna—perform for free.

Usher has announced a new album and a US tour to coincide with his performance, so it’s clear that he is aware of the potential. There is already a demand from fans for UK dates.

It might have slipped your mind—the media hasn’t really brought it up—that Taylor Swift is presently seeing Kansas City player Travis Kelce.
Over the season, she has attended over ten of his games; however, her attendance at the Super Bowl is uncertain as she has a concert in Tokyo the night before.
Kelce responded that Swift was “focused on entertaining the crowd” in Japan and “making sure she’s ready for her performances” when asked about her intentions.
“How about the Super Bowl? All we’ll be concerned about is if she can make it.”
In response, the Japanese Embassy in Washington stated that Swift could make the 12-hour flight and “comfortably arrive in Las Vegas before the Super Bowl begins” because of the time difference between the US and Japan.
Meanwhile, right-wing conspiracy theorists have asserted that the Super Bowl was “rigged” to benefit Kelce (who featured in commercials for Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccination) and Swift (who has sponsored Democratic politicians) and help Joe Biden win the upcoming US presidential election.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell refuted the charges, saying, “The idea that this is within a script, this is pre-planned, is just nonsense.”
