Dwayne Johnson’s “Red One” to Be Released on Amazon.
Before Thanksgiving on November 15, 2024, the sleigh bells will ring for the mysterious holiday film from Amazon MGM Studios and writer Chris Morgan.
On November 15, 2024, Red One—a mystery Christmas film from Dwayne Johnson and his Seven Bucks Productions and screenwriter Chris Morgan—will open in theaters all across the world.
The epic holiday action comedy from Amazon MGM Studios is based on an original story by Seven Bucks Productions’ president of production, Hiram Garcia. The screenplay was written by Morgan and directed by Jake Kasdan.
Swift and ferocious scribe Morgan collaborated with Johnson on four Fast films in addition to the Johnson-driven Hobbs & Shaw spinoff in 2019. Alongside Johnson, the ensemble cast consists of J.K. Simmons, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Nick Kroll, Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka, Bonnie Hunt, Kristofer Hivju, and Wesley Kimmel.
Amazon has already made a statement about its intention to enter the theatrical market, and the release of Red One highlights the company’s focus on the holiday season, which will begin shortly before Thanksgiving in 2020. In addition, Seven Bucks opened Red One at Amazon to capitalize on the film’s branding and e-commerce prospects, even in addition to its eventual Prime Video streaming.
Johnson had already referred to the film as a “big, fun, action packed and fresh new take on Christmas Lore” on his Instagram page. Imagine the mash-up of Jumanji, Miracle on 34th Street, Hobbs & Shaw, a hint of Harry Potter, and my all-time favorite Christmas film, It’s a Wonderful Life.
Red One is produced by Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar of The Detective Agency, Chris Morgan of Chris Morgan Productions, and Garcia, Johnson, and Dany Garcia of Seven Buck. Ainsley Davis of Chris Morgan Productions and Barry Waldman serve as executive producers, while Sky Salem Robinson of The Detective Agency and John Wildermuth serve as co-producers.
Red One’s worldwide distribution is being handled by Warner Bros. Pictures as part of its distribution agreement with Amazon MGM Studios.
