Since joining the team, Maphaka has carried on the MI tradition of discovering fresh, exciting talent and developing them into elite cricket players. He holds the distinction of being one of the youngest players to play in the IPL, both domestically and abroad.

Kwena Maphaka, a 17-year-old from South Africa, gained notoriety at the U19 World Cup earlier this year when he won Player of the Tournament after taking 21 wickets. With 21 wickets, the left-armer has the most of any speed bowler in any U19 World Cup edition.

His senior year of high school is still ongoing. Maphaka is a gifted athlete who has excelled in both hockey and tennis. He is a product of St. Stithians, the same school as Kagiso Rabada.
