The Mumbai Indians have announced that Kwena Maphaka will take Dilshan Madushanka’s spot in the IPL 2024 after the latter’s injury. Since joining the team, Maphaka has carried on the MI tradition of discovering fresh, exciting talent and developing them into elite cricket players. He holds the distinction of being one of the youngest players to play in the IPL, both domestically and abroad.

Kwena Maphaka, a 17-year-old from South Africa, gained notoriety at the U19 World Cup earlier this year when he won Player of the Tournament after taking 21 wickets. With 21 wickets, the left-armer has the most of any speed bowler in any U19 World Cup edition.

In home circumstances, he led South Africa’s offensive as they advanced to the semi-finals. The 17-year-old has previously played for the South African Emerging and A teams.

Lasith Malinga, Bowling Coach, and Jasprit Bumrah, two of the greatest bowlers in the world of cricket, will share a dressing room, which will set him on a path of learning, growth, and expanding on that knowledge.

Maphaka has the ability to generate significant pace and possesses a formidable bouncer who can quickly accelerate batters. He featured in two U19 World Cups since making his debut for the South Africa U19 team at the age of 15.

He can reach speeds of up to 140 kph, and at the U19 World Cup earlier this year, his yorkers and death bowling were particularly impressive.

His senior year of high school is still ongoing. Maphaka is a gifted athlete who has excelled in both hockey and tennis. He is a product of St. Stithians, the same school as Kagiso Rabada.

Over the years, the Mumbai Indians have established a reputation for identifying gems that go on to become international and IPL stars. Young players have regularly signed with the Mumbai Indians since 2008.
